So what can you expect from Tutor Connection? Tutoring, sure, but how? What's going to happen when you call us? Here are a few answers to some recent questions:
- How do you know what my child's needs are?
- What kind of guarantee do you provide?
- Where are you located?
- How do we make sure the tutoring is working?
- What kind of work will my student be doing?
- What makes Tutor Connection different?
Q: How do you know what my child's needs are?
A: Well, you tell us! Our service starts with us asking a few simple questions. What do you want us to achieve, and how do we achieve it together? Answering those questions starts building a strong bond between your family and ours, and puts us all on the same page, no matter what page it is. We understand that different families have different needs. Some only need help for a few hours, maybe to edit a research paper, or go over a tricky section of a geometry class. Some, however, need significant help to overcome years of difficulty with classroom learning, and while the solutions are vastly different, we approach both situations the same way, with candor and compassion, integrity and enthusiasm.
Q: What kind of guarantee do you provide?
A: In our experience, most tutoring guarantees are fundamentally flawed. The typical guarantees we've seen put tremendous pressure on the student to perform, not on the tutor, as the guarantee almost always revolves around a test that the tutoring center gets to administer. That's absolutely unfair to the student. Even if there is a school-based performance guarantee, most of the time the guarantee only gets you more tutoring at a reduced rate. At Tutor Connection, we believe that if you are going to guarantee something, it should promise something that you can deliver yourself. Our pledge to you is simple:
We pledge, first and foremost, to listen to your needs, and work to fulfill them together.
We pledge to provide you with our experience and expertise, not just our time.
We pledge to provide the same service to your family that we would provide to our own.
It's in our best business interest to do what is in the best interests of the students we serve--if we fail in any area, for any reason, on day one or day one hundred and one, you have every right to stop tutoring and take your business elsewhere!
Q: Where are you located?
A: Our service area covers the cities of Thousand Oaks, Malibu, Westlake Village, Chatsworth, Northridge, Granada Hills, Encino, Tarzana, Woodland Hills, Calabasas, Agoura Hills, Newbury Park, Oak Park, Canoga Park, West Hills, Camarillo, Oxnard, Port Hueneme, and adjacent territory in the Ventura and Ojai area by special request. When we asked our clients, the response we got was very clear--the ability to travel and see students in the most flexible way possible was much more important than having a fixed location. So, we chose to keep ourselves mobile! We do have a rotating schedule of locations that we use, if you can meet us there, you save money!
Q: How do we make sure the tutoring is working?
A: We've said for years that good communication is the single greatest predictor for the success of a tutoring program. We would rather hear every day how we can better meet your needs than for you to not discuss them at all. After all, YOU are the best teacher your student will ever have--you know them better than anyone ever will. It's not all one way, though. We'll make suggestions to best help you achieve real academic success for your family. We will freely and openly discuss with you how your student is progressing, and what could be done to help meet your goals, either with our services or on your own.
Q: What kind of work will my student be doing?
A: That does depend a bit on what your goals are. Once we know what we're being asked to achieve, we will be more than happy to discuss our "plan of attack" with you. What we can say with certainty is that too often, we've spoken to parents who felt disappointed by past private tutoring experiences. Their number one complaint, over and over, is that the tutor showed up, but never actually did anything. Merely filling an hour of time with busywork does not resolve issues; in many cases, busywork causes more issues as students learn incorrectly, and are turned off the whole process by pointless labor. We want to solve student problems, not make them worse!
Q: What makes Tutor Connection different?
A: Tutor Connection is owned and operated by a local family. We understand going the extra step for our clients, just as we would for our own family and friends. One of the unique characteristics of our company is the deep and lasting bond we create with all of our clients, both parents and students alike. We believe that the inherent trust and communication that exists in a real friendship with our clients is the only way to grow our business--by helping your family the way you want us to!
Again, if you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to contact us. Let's start making your educational dreams into academic successes!
